Funding as a result of Special Circumstances/Case

Mansfield and Ashfield and Newark and Sherwood Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) have established a range of commissioning policies to make best use of the resources available to them to purchase healthcare services. These policies, by their very nature, focus on cohorts of patients with common clinical conditions and cannot meet every healthcare need of all patients in any one clinical group.

Following a review of the special cases process in July 2017 the CCGs have determined that the Individual Funding Request (IFR) process for considering funding for individuals who seek NHS commissioned services outside established commissioning policies, covers all eventualities and provides a robust and transparent process for considering all cases of exceptionality and special circumstances in regarding to funding care or treatment outside of the CCG policies.

The separate special cases process has therefore been discontinued and clinicians are advised to follow the IFR process on which further information, including a patient leaflet can be found on the Policies and Procedures section of our website.
